Bout of Books 9.0 Read-a-thon

Bout of Books

I’m planning to do Bout of Book‘s read-a-thon next week – my first read-a-thon ever! I’m hoping it will help me develop a healthy 2014 reading habit. (The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal.)

It begins 12:01am Monday, January 6th and runs through Sunday, January 12th. My reading goal will be 5 books, which is virtually UNHEARD of from me in a week. I thought: why not start BIG?

I’d also love to do at least 2 challenges: Book Spine Poetry and Mad Libs maybe?! It’s difficult to decide because until the posts go up I’m not 100% sure what each challenge will entail.

I don’t have a list of what I’ll be reading yet either – something tells me that at this speed it will simply be the closest book at hand (which should be good for me!) – but it will come from my TBR pile which includes way too much at the moment… like:

If you know what I should be reading, please tell me! Otherwise… what are you reading for your Bout of Books?

Update: You can catch my daily recap here.

  1. AWESOME collection of books! I wanna read most of these too. I’ve heard of Covet but don’t feel as if I would like it. I definitely suggest Cinder, Sweet Peril creeps me the heck out. 🙂

    • Thanks! I’m embarrassed that I haven’t read them yet.

Covet wouldn’t normally be my thing either by the way, but I really loved her first novel so I thought I’d give this one a shot. And I’m also kind of scared to read Sweet Peril which is why I think I haven’t read it yet…!

      Thanks for the advice! 🙂

  2. Woohoo!! That’s alot of books lol You should totally read Where the Stars Still Shine, I really enjoyed it. And I just found a copy of Between the Devil in my library, can’t wait to start reading it! Thanks for stopping by my post and good luck!

    • Thanks. I seem to have accrued a bit of YA Science Fiction last year and not read any of it; so 2014 should be a great year for me a Sci-Fi! 🙂

  3. Great blog! Thanks for stopping by mine. Can’t believe this is your first readathon. Welcome! Lol. I would recommend including short stories, poetry, and novellas into your pile, just incase you need a quick book so you can increase your numbers 🙂

    • No faith! Lol. I’m actually choosing my reads by page count now I have decided… I have no faith in myself either. 🙂 Anyway once I get my ‘sea legs’ I’m sure future read-a-thons will go a bit smoother for me.

  4. Cinder and Sweet peril were great. I read them last year. Eleanor and Park was beautiful. I wasn’t thrilled with Throne of glass and Born wicked, but they weren’t bad either. Good luck with your first read-a-thon.

  5. Oooh, have fun! Bout of Books is the BEST read-a-thon to start off with!

As for books, I’d recommend These Broken Stars (I loved it)! Also, please read Dangerous – because I want to read it sooo bad, so need to know what you thought! 🙂 Almost all the rest of them are on my to-read shelf, but I’ve heard great things about Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea, Perfect Ruin and Throne of Glass…

  6. Oh wow, good luck! I don’t think I could ever read 5 books in a week. I can read 2 or 3, but not 5. It would require too much time that I definitely don’t have. :/ A lot of the books on this list are really great books, and some of my favorites, so I can’t wait to see what you think of them. 😛

    • The reason I want to read 5 is that my average is about 0.5, lol. I’ll try and post mini-reviews during the read-a-thon; I hope I enjoy these books as much as you did!

    • Well I’m trying to pick short books! 🙂 I’m a slow reader, but I average about 50 pages an hour (I’ve been checking) so I think my goal is possible…

    • I’ve only gotten through a fraction so far! That’s how slow I read… never mind, it should be a fun year trying to get through all of these, lol. 🙂
