Book Review: Angelfall Trilogy by Susan Ee

Penryn should be picking out a prom dress, instead she’s fighting for her life, because Penryn and her family have just gotten front row tickets to the end of the world. Angels have come to Earth, bringing death and destruction, tsunamis, earthquakes and angel swords. In this new world, nobody goes to prom, nobody sends out utility bills, or cares if you skip school.

After her disabled younger sister gets kidnapped by a demon, Penryn rescues Raffe (an angel who’s had his wings cut off by the same demon) from the violent human street gangs of Silicon Valley (who want to chop him up and sell his parts) and they make a deal: He’ll help her rescue Paige, if she helps him get his wings back. This ‘deal with the devil’ keeps these two characters’ worlds intersected for three whole books. And honestly, I can see room for a forth book still.

I think this is one of my favourite trilogies OF ALL TIME. It’s smart, entertaining, heartwarming/heart-wrenching and so-good-I’m-obsessed!

Fun Factor: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘        Pace: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘         Addictiveness: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘

Suspense/Mystery: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘

Nobody knows why the angels are here, not even the angels… And Raffe has some very dark suspicions about the truth of it.

The archangel Uriel wants nothing more than to be the next Messenger for the angelic host and he’ll scheme his way into office if he has too…

Penryn doesn’t know why a demon took her sister, or what the meager  human resistance plan to do to stop the end of the world, but she knows she wants answers. Even if their not the sort of answers anyone else would wish to hear…

World-Building: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘

I can’t even. Just wow. This was the end of the world – with demons, monsters and humans. This was the World After and it was so real I could taste it. Please, nobody ever mention the word ‘aerie’ to me EVER AGAIN! And the fight scenes are AMAZING. I’m so grateful for Susan Ee’s awesome imagination and the fact that Penryn’s mum made her take years and years of self-defence classes in the World Before.

Romance: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘

Raffe and Penryn = slow burn + super sexy + SHIP SHIP SHIP!!!

Characters: ❤️❤️❤️❤️💘

Penryn’s crazy, paranoid, scary-violent mum, who talks to ‘demons’ only she can hear… This woman. She made me LOL so much.  And Penryn, who’s smart, self-sufficient, loyal and never goes down without a fight – if the apocalypse comes, I want to BE her.  And Raffe, a lonely archangel warrior, who lost his ‘watchers’ eons ago to Hell – thanks to ‘Daughters of Men’ – and who is scathing and funny and who will protect Penryn, even when it’s not the smart choice. And the twins. The one nod to Harry Potter I could find. Loved these two! And Pooky Bear… My favourite fictional sword EVER!

Also, Susan Ee is a sweetie pie… You only have read the #endofdays dedication page to see that:

  1. YES POOKY BEAR!! I’m so glad you like this series, it’s just so amazing. Totally agree with the world building. I get shivers when I think about the world XD

  2. Hi there! I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this blog post of yours… Not just this one but all of them because they are all equally great.

I should mention that because of how much I loved this post of yours I had to check out your blog and I couldn’t help but follow you because your blog is both amazing and beautiful. I am so happy I came across your blog and found it because I do really love it and I truly can’t wait to read more from you, so keep it up (:

P.s. This comment is towards all of your blog posts because they are all equally amazing and incredible, keep up the great work (:

  3. Despite the fact I only read the first one and didn’t have any desire to continue- I actually agree whole-heartedly with your review. I completely agree that the pacing, characters, plot, idea and world-building were great. Where it fell down for me was the quality of the writing. But I can definitely see why everyone liked it anyway!

  4. I absolutely love the format of your reviews Annette, I wish I was able to read all of these books back to back, the wait for each book was a killer! I’m so glad that you ended up loving this series too, the pace and world building was excellent and of course I ended up falling for Raffe! Fab review! 🙂

  5. Oh, that sounds very very great! Angel series seem to be hit or miss for me (I either can’t stand them or adore them), but I’ve been eyeing this one for so so long. I think I’ll give this one a try sooner rather than later. Plus, slow-burn romances are the bestest!

  6. I’m so glad you liked this series, Annette! I read the first book about three or so years ago (!), and have yet to continue, even though I loved it so much that I pre-ordered World After! I just never got around to it. But it’s definitely a series I want to finish this year, because there were SO many aspects that I loved about it! Especially Raffe, and the slow burn romance between him and Penryn. And the fact that family had such a huge role.

I’ve heard that it decreased in quality as time went on, but I’m glad that ti wasn’t that way for you 😀 It gives me hope that I might love all three books, too!

    Lovely review, dear ❤

  7. I love this trilogy, too! I put it off for a while because I was like, “Oh another paranormal/angel romance? Ok, whatever.” But it’s actually so original and compelling!
